Learning agility

Learning agility is how readily you learn from new situations, try new approaches and change course when something is not working.

What it looks like at work

  • Trying a small experiment before committing to a big change
  • Asking for feedback early, while it can still change the work
  • Picking up a new tool or method when the old one stops fitting
  • Reviewing what happened after a project and changing one thing next time

When it shows up often

When it shows up often in your answers, you may enjoy new problems and adapt quickly, which is useful wherever work keeps changing. Watch for moving on before a new habit has had time to settle, or changing course more often than the work needs.

When it shows up less

When it shows up less, you may prefer proven methods and depth over novelty, and that consistency is a real strength. When the work shifts under you, a deliberate, small experiment is a low-risk way to try something new.

Self-insight, not a diagnosis or a hiring decision.

Ways to practise it

  1. Run a seven-day micro experiment on one habit, then compare what changed in what you did, not in how you describe yourself.
  2. Build a one-week study sprint: one topic, one recall practice and one review slot.
  3. After your next piece of work, ask one person for feedback and write down one thing you will do differently.

Tests that look at it

A test's pattern feeds this skill when its name, or failing that its description, uses words such as learning, openness, adapt, student, growth or curiosity.

Growth lenses that lean on it

Growth lenses group skills for a direction you might grow in. They are lenses for growth, not a judgement of job fit.

Questions

Is learning agility about how fast I learn?

Not exactly. It is about how readily you learn from new situations and change your approach. Speed helps, but reflection and the willingness to try again count as much.

Can learning agility change?

Yes. It is a pattern in how you approach new things, and small, regular experiments are one of the most direct ways to practise it.

Other skills

  • Analytical thinking

Analytical thinking is how you break a problem into parts, weigh the evidence and reach a decision you can explain.

  • Communication

Communication is how clearly you get your meaning across, how well you take in what others mean and how you adjust to the person in front of you.

  • Collaboration

Collaboration is how you work with others toward a shared result: sharing context, keeping commitments visible and repairing friction when it appears.

  • Leadership

Leadership is how you set direction, give people the context to act and follow through on what was decided.

  • Self-regulation

Self-regulation, at work, is how you protect your attention and recover from pressure before it turns into rushed work or avoidable mistakes.

  • Execution

Execution is how you turn a plan into visible action: a clear next step, an owner and a deadline, carried through to done.
