Fixed pay is spread over the day’s work; incentives and allowances grow with it.

Drop incentives per day (₹)
= incentive per drop × stops in the day
Km allowance per day (₹)

Cost per day (₹)
= base pay + drop incentives + km allowance
Per hour, per stop and per km (₹)

What it leaves out

A calculator answers the question it is given. These are the things to add, or check, yourself.

  • Employer contributions and benefits, such as provident fund, insurance and bonus, and overtime. If you pay them, add them to the monthly salary, or as an amount per hour to the hourly rate.
  • Leave and holidays: days worked is the days the driver drives.
  • Fuel, the vehicle and overhead. The cost per delivery calculator adds those.
  • Any check of pay against a minimum wage.

Questions

How do I work out a driver’s cost per stop?

Work out what the driver costs in a day (base pay for the day, plus drop incentives and km allowance) and divide it by the stops made that day.

Should I use the monthly salary or an hourly rate?

Whichever you pay. For a monthly salary the calculator divides by the days worked in the month; for an hourly rate it multiplies by the hours worked in a day.

How do per-drop incentives change the cost per stop?

An incentive paid per drop adds the same amount to every stop, however busy the day. Fixed pay is spread over more stops on a busy day, so that part of the cost per stop falls.

Does it include employer contributions?

No. To include provident fund, insurance, bonus and any other cost of employing the driver, add them to the monthly salary, or work them out per hour and add them to the hourly rate.

Plan the routes, dispatch the work and see what each route costs.
