Sharing a result safely

How sharing a Persona result works: what a share link shows, who can open it, how long it lasts and how to turn it off. Your answers are never shared.

In short

  • A result is shared only when you share it, one result at a time.
  • A share link shows the test's name, your headline and a band name per pattern, never your answers or positions.
  • Every link expires; you choose 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 1 year.
  • Turning a link off closes it for good; sharing again makes a new link.

Yours until you share it

A Persona result is not public. You can open it in My results, and so can people with manager access to Persona, who can open a completed result. Nobody else sees it unless you share it.

Sharing is a choice you make for one result at a time. Nothing is shared when you finish a test, and sharing one result never shares another.

Every link expires

When you share a result you choose how long the link works: 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 1 year. It is set to 30 days unless you pick another, and no link lasts forever.

Pick the shortest time that does the job. A link for a coaching session next week needs days, not a year.

If a conversation runs longer than planned, you can give a live link a new end date; its address stays the same.

Who can open a link

Anyone who has the link can open it until it expires or you turn it off, whether or not they use Persona. Treat it like any other private link: send it to the people you mean to show, and do not post it in public places.

Links are long and random, so they are hard to guess, but they can be forwarded. Before you share, think about where the link might travel.

Turning a link off

You can turn sharing off at any time from the result. The link stops working at once and never works again, even if you share the same result later: sharing again always makes a new link. A link that expired stays closed in the same way.

If a link reached the wrong person, turn it off, then share again with a new link to the people you meant.

Each link belongs to one result. If you retake the test later, an existing link still shows the result it was made for, not the new one. Share the new result separately if you want people to see it.

Sharing at work

A result describes how you answered about your own habits, so sharing it at work is your decision. No one should ask you to share a result as a condition of anything. If a manager assigned you the test, they already see your status in Teams, and the invite told you who can open your result; a share link is separate from that.

  • Share with a purpose: a coaching session, a team discussion you chose to join, or a talk about how you like to work.
  • Add context: what the result means to you and what you are practising.
  • Remember that a band name describes answers, not a person.

Results are self-insight, and the share page says so too: "Self-insight, not a diagnosis or a hiring decision."

A checklist before you share

  1. Read the result yourself first, including its confidence level and any pattern near a band edge.
  2. Decide who should see it, and what you want the conversation to be about.
  3. Choose the shortest expiry that covers that conversation.
  4. Send the link straight to those people, with a line of context in your own words.
  5. Turn the link off when the conversation is done.

When someone shares a result with you

If someone shares a result with you, read it as that person's own view of their habits at one time. A band name sums up a range of answers; it is not a type, and it does not rate the person. Ask what the result means to them before you say what it means to you.

Do not forward the link without asking, and do not use it to decide anything about the person. If you manage them, remember that they chose to show you this: it is an opening for a conversation, not a review.

Previews cannot be shared

Test authors sometimes run a draft in Studio to check it. Those preview runs are nobody's result: they never appear in My results, never count in group figures and cannot be shared.

For what each part of a result means before you share it, see How to read your Persona result.

Put it to work. Take a test and read your own result.
